Lost Worlds spans from 3000 BC to 500 AD, which is quite a lot of
history to cover. We also take liberties with the timeline, otherwise some of the
rooms would never be able to co-exist. Still, it is good to have some notion of what
took place when, which is the purpose of this timeline.
3100 BC: King Menes
unites the kingdoms along the Nile Delta; beginning of the
Egyptian Old Kingdom.
2600 BC: Gilgamesh becomes King of Uruk.
2500 - 2200 BC: Pyramids are built in Egypt.
2350 BC: Sargon of Akkad builds a Mesopotamian empire.
2200 BC: Beginning of the First Egyptian Intermediate
Period; beginnings of Minoan culture on the island of Crete.
2050 BC: The First Egyptian Intermediate Period ends with
reunification of Egypt; beginning of the Egyptian Middle
Kingdom.
2000 BC: The Hittite Empire is established in present-day
Turkey.
1800 BC: Hammurabi is Emperor of Babylon and establishes the
first code of laws.
1780 BC: Egyptian Middle Kingdom falls to the Hyskos;
beginning of the Second Egyptian Intermediate Period.
1750 BC: Civilization begins in Persia.
1650 BC: The Egyptians regain control of Egypt; beginning of
the Egyptian New Kingdom.
1600 BC: Trade prospers in the East Mediterranean area
between Mycenaean Greece, Crete, Mesopotamia, and Egypt.
1450 BC: Minoan Crete disappears following a volcanic
eruption.
1300 BC: The Phoenicians become promenant in the East
Mediterranean.
1250 BC: Troy is founded.
1235 BC: Athens is founded.
1200 BC: The Hittite Empire collapses; the Egyptian New
Kingdom dissolves.
1184 BC: Fall of Troy.
1100 - 800 BC: Greek Dark Ages.
1075 BC: The United Hebrew Monarchy emerges.
950 BC: The Hebrew Monarchy dissolves into Judea and Israel.
900 BC: The Assyrian Empire forms.
814 BC: Carthage is founded by the Phoenicians.
776 BC: The first recorded Olympic Games.
753 BC: Rome is founded.
750 BC: Greek colonization of the Mediterranean begins; the
Iliad and Odyssey are written down.
722 BC: Assyria destroys Israel and forces Judea to pay it
tribute.
671 BC: The Assyrians conquer Egypt and destroy the last
remnants of the Kingdoms of the Pharaohs.
612 BC: The Assyrian Empire is destroyed by the Scythians
and Persians.
585 BC: Thales predicts an eclipse and becomes the first
Greek philosopher.
550 BC: The Persian Empire is founded by Cyrus II.
510 BC: The Roman Republic is founded.
490 BC: Athens repels a Persian invasion of Greece in the
Battle of Marathon.
486 BC: Xerxes becomes Emperor of Persia.
480 BC: Xerxes invades Greece. The Spartans lose in the
Battle of Thermopylae, but the Athenians win the naval
Battle of Salamis.
479 BC: Sparta and Athens defeat Xerxes in the Battle of
Plataea. The Persians withdraw.
478 BC: Athens and her allies form the Delian League to
control the Aegean Sea and oppose Persia.
461 BC: Pericles becomes leader of Athens; Golden Age of
Athens begins.
460 BC: Peloponnesian Wars between the Delian League and
Sparta begin.
430 BC - 429 BC: Epidemic in Athens.
429 BC: Pericles dies.
404 BC: Sparta wins the Peloponnesian Wars with Persian
help.
399 BC: Socrates is tried and executed.
395 BC: The Greek city-states of Athens, Sparta, and Corinth
begin to fight for superiority over the Greek peninsula.
382 BC: Phillip II of Macedon is born.
362 BC: Corinth claims victory over the other Greek
city-states.
356 BC: Alexander III (the Great) of Macedon is born.
343 BC: The Greek philosopher Aristotle tutors Alexander
III.
338 BC: Alexander III conquers Greece for Macedonia.
336 BC: Phillip II, King of Macedon, is assassinated.
Alexander III takes the throne.
334 BC: Asia Minor is invaded by Alexander the Great. Darius
III of Persia is defeated in the Battle of Granicus.
332 BC: Tyre is taken by Alexander the Great; Alexandria is
founded.
330 BC: Persepolis is taken by Alexander the Great; Darius
III is slain; the Persian Empire collapses.
329 BC: Alexander the Great invades India; his army mutinies
after victory in the Battle of the Hydaspes.
323 BC: Alexander III (the Great) of Macedon dies of malaria
in Babylon.
290 BC: The Library of Alexandria is founded.
283 BC: The Pharos Lighthouse is built on the Library of
Alexandria.
264 BC: Carthage and Rome enter into the First Punic War.
247 BC: Hannibal Barca is born.
241 BC: First Punic War ends with a Roman victory.
236 BC: Publius Cornelius Scipio is born.
219 BC: Hannibal Barca invades Italy; Second Punic War
begins.
216 BC: Hannibal destroys a numerically superior Roman army
at the Battle of Cannae; one of the survivors is Publius
Cornelius Scipio.
206 BC: Spain is captured from Carthage and added to the
expanding Roman territories.
207 BC: The Battle of the Metaurus River; first Roman
victory. Carthaginian general Hasdrubal is cut down.
202 BC: Scipio and Hannibal meet at the Battle of Zama;
Scipio is victorious; Rome wins the Second Punic War.
201 BC: Roman Senate gives Scipio the title of Africanus for
his victories in Carthage.
184 BC: Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus dies.
183 BC: Hannibal Barca commits suicide.
149 BC: Beginning of the Third Punic War.
146 BC: Carthage is destroyed; end of the Carthaginian
Empire and the Third Punic War.
115 BC: Crassus is born.
106 BC: Pompeii is born.
100 BC: Julius Caesar is born.
85 BC: Brutus is born.
83 BC: Marcus Antonius is born.
73 BC: Spartacus leads a slave revolt against Rome.
63 BC: Octavian is born; Rome annexes Judea.
60 BC: The First Triumvarate of Julius Caesar, Crassus, and
Pompeii controls Rome.
58 BC: Rome begins conquest of Gaul.
53 BC: Crassus dies; War of the First Triumvarate begins.
52 BC: Conquest of Gaul is completed.
48 BC: Pompeii dies.
45 BC: Julius Caesar seizes control of Rome; War of the
First Triumvarate ends.
44 BC: Julius Caesar is assassinated; Second Triumvarate of
Octavian, Marcus Antonius, and Brutus rules Rome.
43 BC: The War of the Second Triumvarate begins.
42 BC: Brutus dies.
31 BC: Marcus Antonius is defeated by Octavian at the Battle
of Actium; Marcus Antonius dies.
27 BC: Octavian becomes Caesar Augustus; Wars of Roman
Expansion begin. The Roman Republic becomes the Roman
Empire.
4 BC: Yeshua (named Jesus Christ by the Romans in his later
years) is born.
14 AD: Caesar Augustus dies.
30: Jesus Christ is crucified by the Romans and subsequently
dies.
33: Christianity begins to spread.
43: Invasion of Britain; London founded.
64: Rome burns; Emperor Nero practises violin. Christianity
is outlawed in the Roman Empire.
75: Construction begins on the Roman Coliseum.
110 - 401: Pax Romana
112: The Silk Road opens and trade begins between Asia and
Europe.
132: The Jews are dispersed by the Romans.
170: Paved roads spread across the Empire.
180: Death of Marcus Aurelius, the last of the great Roman
Emperors.
192: Emperor Commodus murdered; beginning of Roman decline.
330: Constantinople is made administrative capital of the
East Roman Empire.
337: Constantine is converted to Christianity on his
deathbed.
350: Huns invade Persia.
351: Emperor Theodosius outlaws the Olympic Games.
360: First invasion of Europe by the Huns.
378: Battle of Adrianople - the first Roman defeat since the
Battle of Cannae.
388: Rome is burned by Hun chieftain Brennus.
395: Death of Emperor Theodosius III; permanent division of
the Roman Empire.
396: The Visigoths under Alaric invade Greece.
400: Greece is sacked by Alaric.
401: Alaric invades Italy; Britain abandoned by Imperial
forces.
410: The Visigoths sack Rome and conquer Spain.
416: Romulus Augustus becomes Roman Emperor; Odoacer becomes
the first Germanic King of Italy.
425: The first wave of Saxons, Angles, and Jutes invade
Britain.
433: Attila becomes King of the Huns.
441: The Huns invade the Eastern Roman Empire.
449: The Saxons and Angles invade Britain again and conquer
the island.
451: Attila defeated in the Battle of Chalons; Italy put to
the torch by the Huns.
452: Venice is founded.
455: Vandals sack Rome.
470: The Huns leave Europe.
476: Romulus Augustus dies; fall of the Roman Empire;
beginning of the Middle Ages.
483: Justinian is born.
486: Clovis establishes the Kingdom of the Franks in Gaul.
493: Theodoric murders Odoacer and becomes King of Italy.
496: Clovis becomes a Christian.
